Purpose
By means of turning the wooden handle that would rotate the rotary gear shaft, this particular cherry stoner utilized a spear-like plunger to impale an individual cherry and thus, push out the pit. The pit would exit the device through its own channel and the cherry would be saved in a separate area.

Date Details
The New Standard Hardware Works Company, located in Pennsylvania in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, manufactured several varieties of Cherry Stoners and other assorted iron gadgets. Although an exact date for this object could not be determined, this stoner resembles other New Standard pitters that were produced around the turn of the century (300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles, Franklin 24). As a result, it is reasonable to date this object from the late 19th century to the early twentieth.
