Liquid Measuring Cup

Type: Food preparation
Material
brass
Purpose
This item could be used to measure almost any liquid for cooking and baking. There are even reports that beer, which was sometimes sold in measures, was a prime ingredient in this type of cup.
Creation Date
1875 – 1899
Date Details
According to 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 329) & Kitchen Antiques (Johnson 70), many of these same styled measuring cups were produced in tin (and copper) throughout the 1800's, however similar brass pieces were seen quite often at the end of the 1800's and early 1900's. A very similar brass cup was observed in Kitchen Antiques (Johnson 74), that was dated approximately at the turn of the century. Hence, the liquid measuring cup noted above may also possibly date circa 1900.
