Most hand-made forged iron knives are known to be older than the factory produced knives. Industrial manufactured knives began appearing in the latter half of the nineteenth century, whereas hand-forged knives could have been created and utilized much earlier in that century. If this knife is hand-forged, then it may date as far back as the early 1800's (300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles, Franklin 27).
