Date Details
According to 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 18), wooden beetles were common instruments used for beating, mashing or pounding vegetables, especially potatoes. The beetle noted above is on the small side and therefore was probably used to grind herbs and spices. Those beetles that were factory-produced date back to the late 19th century and appear in the early twentieth. This beetle looks as if it is factory manufactured and therefore was probably used during this time period.
