According to 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 528) and Kitchen Collectibles (Plante 87), it appears that most styles of the popular box like coffee grinders first appeared in the latter half of the 19th century but were manufactured well into the twentieth. Therefore, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact date for this grinder, however, due to its simplicity and design, and its similarity to those mills created in the 1880's and 1890's, it could be very possible that this same grinder was created and used during these same decades.
