Chopping knives of all varieties were very prevalent in Victorian households. Some were made of one rocker blade and one handle or two blades and one handle as well as the above, which had not only two blades, but two handles. These factory-produced knives had first appeared during the Industrial Revolution in the latter half of the 1800's and were utilized throughout the remaining 19th century and well into the twentieth (300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles, Franklin 27). This particular chopping knife appears to be very similar to the German dual bladed chopper observed at the website "Jon of Antiques" dated circa 1900. Not only does it look similar, but it was manufactured by the same German company. Based on this information, as well as the composition of its materials, style and condition, it is reasonable to state that this knife was probably used at the turn of the century.
