Description
The compiler of this volume may have been a Mrs. Dr. Young, whose name appears on one of the recipes. The book was likely compiled in the Mid-Atlantic, for it contains a few New York City addresses as well clippings from Philadelphia newspapers. Forty-eight pages in length, the book contains a mix of culinary, medical, and household recipes, some handwritten and others clipped from printed sources, particularly newspapers. The book glosses gingerbread, cakes, icing, pickles, and pies and includes instructions for curing hams. A recipe for pickling cucumbers is noted as being "an old sea captain's recipe," and a few other recipes are attributed to specific persons. The recipes are indexed in a database available at the library.
