This 27-page volume contains handwritten and clipped recipes for cakes, gingerbread, puddings, wines, gelatin, chicken salad, Russian cream, terrapins, blackberry syrup, lavender water, waffles, lemon sauce, braised apples, popovers, and chocolate loaf, among other foods. Mrs. Charles W. Devitt, a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. M. Lex both contributed recipes to this volume. Mrs. Lex's name is written on the front page, followed by "Profeser in the art of Cooking, under instruction Phoebe Lex, Dutchy Wagner, Magie Eduards."
