Description
This 300-page recipe book was likely compiled in England, based on the London addresses recorded in the back of the volume. An index at the front divides the recipes into categories: meats, fish, soups and gravies, puddings and pies, sweet dishes, sweets, preserves, cakes and bread, wine and beer, pickles, and household products, remedies, and advice. The book includes recipes for Prince Albert's pudding ("said to be a receipt from the queen's household"), Italian cheese, Spanish cake, German puffs, and "American pickle for meats." Several recipes are noted as having been received from others, including an uncle's cook. In addition, there are instructions for washing ribbons and recipes for furniture oil, insect deterrents, etc. The recipes are listed in an Access database, available at the library.
