Description
C. Dyer's diary, kept from June 15 to July 27 of 1821, records his trip to Canada. Travelling first by horseback and then by boat, Dyer left Fayette, North Carolina, and headed north into Canada, passing through Pennsylvania, Virginia, and western New York. His entries concern the beauty of the changing landscape, the convenience and safety of newly constructed canals, a visit to Niagara Falls, and his travels by steamer. Appended to the diary is a series of dessert recipes recorded between 1827 and 1837.
