Description
This 24-page volume includes 32 recipes, primarily for baked goods and desserts. The author of the book is presumed to be Mrs. Marie Sibbald because an envelope pinned inside the front cover is addressed to her. The 1850 census shows Chas. F. Sibbald in Ward 4, Washington D.C., with wife Marie and children, all with the last name "Sibbald." The approximate date of the manuscript is surmised from a clipped recipe, also pinned inside the front cover. It includes an advertisement from Z. D. Gilman of Gilman's drugstore, which opened on Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, in 1843. (See photo.)
