Description
This anonymous recipe book of approximately 100 pages contains handwritten accounts, dressmaking instructions, recipes, remedies, and other materials, as well as pasted-in newspaper clippings containing recipes and various other sorts of information. The handwritten recipes, mostly written in pencil, appear to be in a single hand. They are of various types, with a slight bias toward desserts and cakes. Most of the recipes are separated by several blank pages, for no apparent reason. The book includes an unusual recipe for beef tongue salad using freshly boiled tongue (page 56) as well as a very early recipe for marble cake (page 60).

The recipe book is part of the library's Elizabeth Reed Keller Papers, which mostly concern events in 1944-1946. Attached to or enclosed in the recipe book is a book of photographs of the U. S. Army Rest Center in the Mussolini Forum, 1944-45.
