Description
These three recipe books were written by three related members of the eighteenth-century Smith family of Massachusetts: Mary Edwards Storer (1700-1771); Mary Storer's daughter, Elizabeth Storer Smith (1726-1786), and Elizabeth Smith's daughter-in-law, Hannah Carter Smith (1764-1836).

Mary Edwards Storer was the wife of Ebenezer Storer, a Boston merchant, justice of the peace, and church deacon. The couple had five or more children. Elizabeth Storer Smith was the wife of Isaac Smith (1719-1787), an uncle of Abigail Adams (wife of President John Adams) and one of the wealthiest merchants and shipowners in Boston. The couple had four children. Hannah Carter Smith was married to William Smith (1755-1816), a Boston merchant, and had five children.
