Description
In a note inserted in the front of this volume, culinary historian Karen Hess adduces that this typed collection of Virginia and Maryland recipes was collated after the Civil War, although it contains a number of much earlier recipes. The collection was typed in the early twentieth century, perhaps with the intent of publication for some charitable purpose. The volume is divided into alphabetical sections: breads, desserts, meats, etc. Each recipe is numbered, beginning with #21. Most of the recipes are identified by person or family, and city: George Washington family, Dolly Madison, Thomas Jefferson family, and others.  There are a few penciled notations.
