1821 and 1850Description
These two cookbooks were written by different individuals, possibly of the same family. One cookbook, written in ink (and in very fragile condition), contains the names "William Water and Nelly Waters" at the bottom of one page and a legible date of May 15th, 1821. The other cookbook is written in both pencil and in ink and contains a number of recipes on scraps of paper and clipped from newspapers. It is obviously of a later date, with more "modern" spelling. On the front page has been written: "Sep 1 - 1850 mothers receipt book." Both cookbooks contain notations added much later (one is dated 1913) from persons with the surname Amos. These persons could simply have been owners of the books, but it is reasonable to suspect that they were descendants of the authors.
