Description

This English receipt book contains a random mix of culinary and medical recipes, some of which bear dates spanning 1834 to 1840. The last few pages of the book provide a description of quilting designs and a "list of plate in use" for 1838. The culinary recipes focus on meat and fish dishes, including lobster salad, a popular party dish of the time in both England and America. There are also recipes for puddings, desserts, and ginger beer. An interesting remedy for "Swallowing a pin or fish bone" promises that "the dose will not keep many minutes upon the stomach--and will bring up the pin or the bone!!!" Many of the recipes are attributed.
