This volume of about 200 pages apparently began as John Clarke's arithmetic notebook. The book was subsequently continued by several unidentified authors who added other sorts of material, including approximately 200 recipes, in English and Latin, for food and drink, medicines, and household supplies. The book also contains notes relating to the Clarke family, circa 1750s-1810s. A list of births, marriages, deaths, and smallpox inoculations, 1690-1800, includes "Mr. Clarke" (1733-1781), possibly in reference to the book's original author, "Mrs. Clarke" (1732-1800), and their children.
