Description
The title page of this volume of 73 leaves is inscribed, "Samuel B. Myers Receipt Book Jun the 7th 1833." Meyers kept this book from 1833 to 1853, primarily for purchases, rents, and other transactions. Entries are noted as made in Pittsburgh, Chambersburg, and Fayetteville, Pennsylvania. The latter part the volume contains culinary, veterinary, and medical recipes, a number of which are in the hand of Theadore Myers and are dated to 1895. The culinary recipes include cakes (a large wedding cake), biscuits, muffins, cookies, pies, preserves, and pickles. There is also a recipe for curing hams, and there are several recipes for beer, and wine. The book includes two full-page scaled drawings for an Empire style washstand and small dresser.
