Description
The inside back cover of this recipe book is signed and dated, "Mrs. Grisley [possibly Brisley] 1825, Begun at Durham [England]." The book is primarily in a single hand, with a few items added in two other hands. It contains 166 recipes, numbered 1 to 166, and a table of contents on 34 leaves. The book includes culinary recipes for veal and rice stewed, tainted game, vegetables, biscuits, puddings, cakes, jellies, preserves, treacle beer, elder wine, and walnut wine. The culinary recipes are interspersed with medical, household, and cosmetic recipes. Some recipes on newspaper clippings have been pasted, including "To feed oysters" and "Receipt for a goose pie."
