circa 1825-1865Description
Written by Elizabeth Miller Hart Jarvis (1798-1881), this book is inscribed on the front flyleaf "Elizabeth Hart's--Saybrook--1825." It includes handwritten recipes for Federal Cake, Republican Cake, gingerbread, puddings, wines, and cordials as well as home remedies. Loose sheets containing similar recipes are laid into the center of the book. Although the book was evidently started in 1825, changes in ink suggest that the author added to it over the years.
