Description
Ellen Moore's recipe book is part of the library's collection of the papers of the Blodgett, Britton, and Moore families of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Northampton County, North Carolina, and New Orleans, Louisiana. Ellen Moore was born Ellen Britton in 1817. She married Dr. Cornelius Godwin Cotten Moore (1819-1888) in 1841. She died in 1893, near Jackson, in North Hampton County, North Carolina. Ellen Moore's recipe book is dated 1841, the year of her marriage. In addition to culinary recipes, the book contains instructions for knitting socks and making cologne, dyes, whitewash, and medicines. The book is located Series 4, Folder 18 of the collection.
