This account book and recipe book is part of the library's collection of papers relating to Frances Esmond Durdin Lewis and her family. Frances Lewis (ca. 1760-1834) lived in the Philadelphia area, as did many of her relatives. Born in Ireland, at Ballynagstragh House, to Sir James Esmonde 7th Baronet and Allice White, she arrived in Philadelphia with her first husband, Richard Durdin, in 1786. The couple had three children and one adopted daughter. She later married William Lewis, an attorney, who held the positions of District Attorney and District Judge during the Washington administration.
