Description
This recipe book of 16 leaves is written in a single hand. The author is presumed to be David Johnson, because a note on leaf 10 reads: "Recipe for a liniment for my lame shoulder by Dr. Dixi Crosby of Hanover, N.H. April 24, 1846 - David Johnson." While primarily composed of household and medical recipes, this volume also contains culinary recipes for apple butter, boiling rice, curing hams, elderberry wine, and vinegar. Recipes are attributed to Hiram Johnson, Joseph F. Tilden, and Dr. E. V. Watkins. Some recipes are copied from publications in Vermont, Maine, and Albany, New York.
