This 160-page book of culinary and medical recipes is written largely in a single anonymous mid-18th century hand. Most of the recipes are attributed. Some of these attributions are likely published sources, while others are persons in the writer's personal circle. (There are several culinary recipes credited to "my mother," for example.) The volume is written from both ends of the book, with culinary recipes written from one end, and medical recipes from the other, although there is some mixing. Each section has a table of contents at the front. Some of the medical recipes have notes and additions dated 1777 and 1779. One medical recipe "for the scrophula" has a note saying "does not work," which is signed "EB 1837," indicating that the volume was still in use some years after it was compiled.
