Description
This 144-page English recipe book was compiled between the 1790s and 1878. It is mostly in the hand of Mary Farrow, an individual identified as having lived in the village of Loughborough, in Leicestershire, as well as in Ingham, in Lincolnshire, and whose inscription on the front paste-down endpaper supplies the library's title for this book. However, several of the earlier recipes in the book are in a different hand, possibly that of Mary Farrow's mother, who was also named Mary Farrow. Most of the recipes in the book are culinary (A disproportionate number of these recipes call for ginger, which is curious.) There are also some medical and household recipes. Many of the recipes in the younger Farrow's hand are dated and attributed, for example, to Cousin Booth, Jane Griffins, and Aunt Jane, among others. About thirty recipes written on loose sheets of paper are inserted in the middle of the volume.
