1786Description
This recipe book, dated November 3, 1786, is in the clear, uniform hand of Martha Crownfield, who was likely the wife of Henry Crownfield, rector of St. Lawrence in South Walsham, Norfolk. The book, as now extant, comprises 8 pages. However, the book originally contained at least one additional leaf at the front (the current first page of the book begins with a recipe fragment), and, likely, another leaf at the end of the volume. (The "ield" in Martha Crownfield's ownership inscription is cramped and written above "Crownf," as if it had originally been written across a 2-page spread.) Recipes for preserves, wines, fish, and puddings are included; there are also two medical recipes.
