Description
Kept by the John Upton, the brig Apollo's master and log keeper, this daily logbook records the Apollo's voyage from Boston (the brig's home port) to Brazil between May and November of 1819. The log describes wind, weather, location, port activities, and sightings of ships, and it includes the dimensions of the Apollo and a pencil drawing of the brig. Of particular interest to culinary historians, the log also contains a provision manifest, a bill of fare for the galley, recipes, and orders for the ship's cook.
