Description
This volume of 69 leaves was written by a single individual, except perhaps for a few (slightly later) recipes glued inside the covers. The library's dating of the volume is based upon the dates appearing on the printed material used in the cover boards (1819-1820) and two recipes dated 1827.

This collection is unusual in containing no recipes for the principal dishes of dinner. It includes only recipes for preserves (apple, quince, and orange), condiments (a number of vinegars, ketchup, horseradish sauce), pickled foods (tongue, beef, mushrooms, mackerel, eggs), fruit and flower wines (elderflower, ginger, cowslip, rhubarb, gooseberry), brewed drinks, fortified wines, and spirits (mead, Madeira, ginger beer, flavored brandies), and desserts (lemon cake, trifle, snow cream, fairy cream, calves' foot jellies, treacle pudding, plum pudding, and fig pudding). The book also includes some directions for medicines and household preparations.
