Description
Jane Robinson Fothergill (d. 1874) was the second wife of Alexander Fothergill, a grandson of the esteemed English Quaker physician John Fothergill (1712-1780). The couple had at least eleven children. In 1843 they were granted a certificate to move with their minor children from Marsden Monthly [Quaker] Meeting, in England, to Chester Monthly Meeting (Orthodox), in Wilmington, Delaware. Alexander died the same year and was buried in Wilmington. Jane's book contains journal accounts, dates of the births of her children, recipes, and miscellaneous notes. It also includes some references to Wilmington, Delaware, suggesting that it may have been continued beyond the date ascribed by the library.

Jane Fothergill's journal is located in Box 1 of the library's collection of the Fothergill family papers.
