Description
This recipe book is written in a notebook originally used to record the minutes of an 1858 meeting of the Literary Congress of Philadelphia, which was likely a literary club of some sort.  Inscribed “To Bessie McCollin, from Grandma,” the recipe book is written in a single uniform hand to page 60 and in various hands to the end of the book. The book contains recipes for cakes, syrups, puddings, oysters, fruits, and eggs, as well as general remarks on foods (cheese, beef, etc.) and basic cooking processes. It also contains some medical recipes. There is an index. A coupon has been inserted into the volume between pages 56 and 57.
