Description
The library's Carpenter family papers include the recipe book of Augusta Georgia Bryan Turner (Box 3, Folder 3), which contains recipes for cream cake, lemon pie, and other desserts. Diary entries in the book are dated 1858 to around 1900, so it is likely that the recipes share that date range. In addition to this recipe book, the collection includes a handwritten recipe for
sour mash whiskey. Dated May 18, 1818, it is one of the earliest recipes known for this Kentucky specialty.
