Description
The library's Costello family papers includes a nineteenth century recipe book, presumably compiled by a member of the Costello family, that contains culinary, medical, and household recipes. John Costello and his family emigrated to Philadelphia from Dublin, Ireland, in 1833. By profession John Costello was a "woolen merchant," but it appears that most of the family income was derived from Dublin real estate. One of his sons, James P. C. Costello, lived in Tennessee for a number of years, during which time he made the acquaintance of Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk. The papers include genealogical information about Georgina Craven Costello. Her relationship to the Costello family is not specified.
