Description
The author of this receipt book was Augusta Burnaby, who inscribed "Receipt Book --1814-- Augusta Burnaby" on the inside front cover and "Miss A Burnaby. Augusta Burnaby, St. Margts. Leceister" on the inside back cover. She was probably a daughter of the Rev. Andrew Burnaby (1732-1812), rector of St. Margaret's parish in Leceistershire, and Anna Edwyn (1735-1812), heiress of Baggrave Hall, which passed into the ownership of the Burnaby family upon their marriage in 1770.

The 74-page manuscript contains over 100 recipes, most of which are culinary but also include several medical recipes. Many of the recipes are attributed to various women, who may have been visitors at the rectory or relatives.
