Description
This book contains approximately sixty handwritten recipes and another twenty or so recipes on clippings as well as some non-recipe material. The library believes that the unknown compiler of the manuscript lived in or near Washington, D. C. Although the book was begun in 1864, most of the recipes are charactertistic of the late nineteenth century. There are, for example, a number of recipes for fruit salads and several recipes for dishes of French inspiration, including cauliflower "polonaise," French pancakes, souffle plombieres, and oysters a la poulette. Some of the recipes are credited to their contributors. All of the recipes are indexed in a database available at the library.
