Description
This recipe book of approximately 70 pages is presumed to have been created by Mrs. E. A. Phelps, of Canandaigua, New York, whose name is written on the inside front cover and on several of the fifty loose sheets that are inserted in the book. The book is primarily given over to cakes, tea cakes, little cakes, and gingerbreads, for which some 120 recipes are outlined, along with another dozen or so recipes on loose sheets. There are also recipes for tea and breakfast breads, puddings, cream and custard desserts, and preserves. The recipes are characteristic of the middle third of the nineteenth century. All are indexed in a database available at the library.
