Description
This ledger was owned or compiled by Dr. P. Roosevelt Johnson of Sag Harbor, New York. It contains household, medical, culinary, and brewing recipes, as well as notes on farming, building, carpentry, thatching, site plans, estimates, labor, waterproofing, agriculture, and animals.

Recipes include: "German method of clarifying and preserving fresh butter," "To prevent the taste of turnip in butter," "Easy manner of preserving eggs for 12 months," "best root-advantages of baking instead of boiling," "Dr Anderson's improved method of salting butter," "Grape wine by Mrs. Chs. Hamilton of Paris Hill, Surrey equal to champagne and old hock." There are also recipes for English tokay wine, ginger wine, birch wine, brewing (many types), ginger cakes, beef pickle (many types), currant wine, yeast cakes, loaf cake, Washington cake, whigs, custard, boiled pudding, cold sauce for pudding, baked pudding, Lucens cake, "maple beer by W. Turner," tomato catsup, oyster sausages, pickled vegetables (many types),  gingerbread pound cake, buns, cream cake, Charlotte Russe, boulli, plum pudding, "tea cakes by Wm. Earnshau," and apple ginger.
