This cookbook may have belonged to Margaret Howard, of Baltimore, Maryland, whose will is housed with the cookbook at the library. Containing eighty-three recipes on 29 pages, the book focuses on pies, puddings, dessert creams, cakes, tea cakes, and breads, with a few recipes for soups and alcoholic drinks mixed in. Most of the recipes were popular by the 1840s, but a few likely date from the 1860s or later, such as chocolate cake, feather cake, and caramels. Recipes of note include Mince Meat by Ma's Receipt (page 8), Lamb Rolls (page 14), and Pathenia Pudding (page 28).
