Description

This collection consists of a 24-page recipe book, written in four different hands, and ten loose sheets. The collection comprises thirty-three culinary recipes and eight recipes for household products. These recipes were likely first compiled in Lansingburg, New York (the notebook originally belonged to a Lansingburg bank) and later in Schaghticoke, New York, both in the state’s Capitol Region. The book was probably begun in the 1820s and continued into the 1850s. A pasted-on clipping on page 5, “To Raise Grapes Without Seed," came from the American Farmer, 9/6/1829. A program for "Grand Concert at the Presbyterian Church" at Schaghticoke is tucked in. One of the pieces performed at the concert was composed in 1856.

The recipes include Medicated Biscuit, Domestic Yeast, Albany Receipt for Hams, Mrs. Madison's Whim, Lobster Cutlets, Rhubarb Cordials, Chicken Croquettes, Parker House Rolls, Cork Cake, To Preserve Raisins, and Ice Cream.
