Description
Wheelthrown redware butter churn, slightly tapered and cylindrical with incised bands under rim at midpoint and near base, with inset lid, hollow knob finial, mottled iron brown allover surface under lead glaze; fitted with wooden plunger whose flat disk is pierced with four holes.

impressed: on base and under lid: "I I I"

inscribed: on base in dark ink: "With Compliments/W. Holden"
