Date Details

According to an article entitled "Frisbies Patent Nut Cracker", the nutcracker above was patented in May of 1859. This patent date is also supported via the reference to this same tool in 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 50). It was manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Company. In addition it looked very similar to other wrench-like nutcrackers from the pre-Civil War era. Based on this information, it is reasonable to say that the artifact above was probably utilized in the mid to late 1800's.
