Date Details
Many of the white ironstone or cream-colored earthenware pudding molds as listed in 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 247) are dated in the latter half of the nineteenth century, as new developments in pottery crafts were occurring, however, many of these pieces were utilized well into the twentieth century. Therefore, since there are no other markings on this piece, it is difficult to date this mold. Nevertheless, based on the information in 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles and Kitchen Antiques (Johnson 139), as well as the excerpt regarding Jelly Pudding molds in Forgotten Household Crafts (Seymour 43) and the ironstone pieces being auctioned off online at Sassafras Antiques Trading Company, it is safe to say that this pudding mold was probably used in the late nineteenth century and/or early twentieth. Many additional pudding/jelly molds of the Victorian era were made from copper and tin as well.
