According to Forgotten Household Crafts (Seymour 110), various foot stoves and warmers were utilized throughout the 1800's and into the early 1900's. Foot stoves, similar in style to this one, had been very prevalent and widely used in the mid 1800's. There were also tin conical foot stove but they were not as popular as the square style. Consequently, it is very possible that this stove had been employed to warm the feet of an individual living in the mid-nineteenth century.
