Description
This manuscript contains approximately one hundred culinary recipes of diverse kinds: soups, meat dishes, puddings, pastry, and sweet wines. Although the book appears to have been copied in Great Britain and Ireland--one page is inscribed London, another Falkirk [Scotland], and a third Portaferry [Ireland])--and although most of the recipes are English, the book also includes some American recipes unlikely to have been known in Great Britain or Ireland at the time this manuscript was compiled. Many of these recipes are Dutch-American and characteristic of New York City and the Hudson Valley: Oly Cookeys (a kind of doughnut with dried fruit), Coker Nut Pudding, Yellow Coker Nut Tarts, White Coker Nut Tarts, and Waffles. Perhaps the writer of this book was given these recipes by a New York friend--or perhaps she was herself an expatriate New Yorker.
