This 42-page bound volume was made for George Isham Parkyns to record commercial receipts. The right, or facing, sides of the pages are printed with three blank forms reading, "Received the ___ day of ___ 177_ of George Isham Parkyns, Esq; the Sum of ____ being in full of all Demands due to this Day. per me." The back sides of the first 32 pages contain about 40 cookery recipes for seed cake, raspberry froth, pickled walnuts, lemon cheesecake, and other period dishes. The first receipt on page 1 has "Augustus," the brother of George Isham Parkyns, pasted over "George Isham." The second receipt on page 1 (signed "Geo: Dove") is dated 24 December 1782, while a subsequent receipt, signed E. A. Taylor, is dated 1825, providing a sense of when the book was used. Other names present in the book include E. Machen and M. Tollenson.
