Margaret Hill Morris (1737-1816) was raised in Philadelphia and married William Morris, a Quaker merchant and early contributor to Pennsylvania Hospital, in 1758. She had four children, one of whom was born following her husband's death in 1766. In 1770 she moved with her family to the vicinity of Burlington, New Jersey. She was recognized as a skillful doctor and regularly treated the ill and injured during the American Revolutionary War.
Margaret Hill Morris's recipe book includes instructions for pickling, drying, or otherwise preserving meat, eggs, and cream. Many of the recipes in the book are remedies for various complaints and illnesses, from infants to adults.
