Description
This book of approximately 250 pages appears to have been compiled from the late eighteenth through the early nineteenth century, for it contains references to the winter of 1789 (page 12); "observing of Meagre Soup" in June 1784 (page 99); and preserving oranges whole in March 1800 (page 189). Most of the recipes are for food and drink, but there are also recipes for medicines and household items such as soaps, dyes, and cement for china. There are also instructions for the management of pheasants and the fattening of ducklings. The book includes an index.

Many of the recipes are attributed to named individuals. Some recipes include notations, some of which are initialed J.H. A reference to Sir Horace Mann (1701-1786) appears on page 43. A recipe in French (translated on page 187) is pinned in.
