This manuscript consists of the bound handwritten record book of the Belfast Lyceum, for the years 1847-1848, to which handwritten recipes were added in the back, circa 1860-1880. Instituted in 1847, the Belfast Lyceum (likely of Belfast, Maine) was a private association that sponsored "public and private discussions and occasional public lectures upon literary, scientific, and moral topics."
