This recipe book is inscribed on the inside front cover: Hattie P. Bassett, Jan 1st, 1863. The book was compiled primarily by Hattie P. Bassett, her mother, and other female relatives. The recipes vary widely, covering cakes, pies, fruit wines, household products, and remedies. There are approximately 187 entries altogether, written in a notebook of 142 hand-numbered pages, 74 of which are blank. Indexes are written on pages 135-142. Some loose material is inserted in the book.
