This recipe book of approximately 140 pages is titled on recto of the front flyleaf: "M. Hall. 1753." There is also an ownership inscription on the inside front cover: "Mary Hall. November the 16th, 1753."
The book contains 225 recipes for food and drink. There is an extensive selection of recipes for meat and fish dishes, including veal olives, calf's feet florentine, roast lobster, and stewed seals "or any other fish." The volume also contains many recipes for pickled foods (including pigeon); puddings; sweet dishes; and various drinks, ranging from ratafia and gooseberry wine to small ale. The recipes are preceded by a table of contents.
