Description
This recipe book is part of the library's collection of the Lewis family papers. The book's author, Catherine Ann Lum Lewis (1808-1847), was the wife of Albert Gallatin Lewis (1798-1883), a wealthy farmer and businessman with extensive land holdings in Newark, Delaware. The couple had six children between 1831 and 1842, the two youngest of whom died in infancy. Catherine Lewis intended the recipes in her cookbook to be used by her surviving children. Catherine's death from cholera, at age 39, devastated her husband, as poems and other papers written by Albert, included in the collection, attest. He did not marry a second time during the remaining thirty-six years of his life.

The recipe book is located in Series II of the collection > Catherine Ann Lum Lewis > 1829-1842, n.d.
